@whatsmadisonreadingnow: Replying to @Steffi Graves 🦇🇨🇦 I asked people to recommend me books they DIDN’T like, and now I’m reading them! I’m about 45% of the way through Wicked - Book 24 of the challenge - and it’s not getting any easier. Undeniably strange, very complex, and underneath all the challenge: good. #BookTok #bookish

It’s always crazy to me that someone read this book and said, ya know, I think this would make an excellent broadway musical—and a show for the whole family at that

I’m just traumatized from that one scene. I read this much too young.

I chose to read this book in my senior year of HS for my AP Literature class (we got to pick a book off a list each semester to read personally and then analyze individually). To me, it fits in that context perfectly: it was a great book to analyze in an academic setting, the story was interesting, but it really is not a book I would consider reading "just for fun" - if that makes sense. I was glad I read it and I dont think i'll ever read it again.

I feel like a theater kid canon event is reading this book because the musical is so good and then just being smacked in the face with such a behemoth of a read

I've never heard anyone put it the way you did, but it is exactly what makes a book a like or love for me. Do I feel like I'm reading a book or that I am part of a book.

I finished reading it and immediately felt like I had to re-read and deeply annotate it to actually grasp everything lol

It makes COMPLETE sense. In writing like that, I pretend I’m the narrator off screen telling everyone else the back story and internal thoughts and that helps me understand better. Makes me feel more apart of the story

I very much hated this book. All of things you talked about made it not enjoyable. I finished but not happily.

My goal this year is to finish all four of the books in this series and it has been a grind lol. Each book has taken me many months to get through. Your description of the reading experience is spot on.

Every time I read it, I feel stupid. Like, idk but the writing style gives me college textbook vibes.
