I’ve noticed people who are pleased with their care don’t really want to leave a positive review. But if they’re not…oh they’re going STRAIGHT to review lol

Is she referring to Fenton et al., 2012? Because this generally seems like a misleading use of this research and its critiques.

This is why I go to the review and look at the bad ones first on Amazon 🤣

She’s completely right, people who are happy with care almost never go out of their way to review a doctor specially if they are so sick that ur brain may not be able to do complex mentations

My local office that has 2.5 stars on yelp is the BEST medical facility I have ever been to. You’d think it was a private practice (it’s a mediCal provider).

Important for people to remember dermatologists are there for medical problems bc they are physicians; they are not there for a relaxing leisurely experience

Because it’s usually a doctor has a classic business transactional relationship with patients, not the actual ethical doctor patient dynamic that it should be . Basically, whatever the patient asks for, the patient gets, even at their expense. Also, more than half the time, the reviews have more to do with issues they had with the front desk staff, insurance, etc. nothing to do with the actual quality of medical evaluation and management.

I never received a Daily award bc I’m about results. Sometimes you gotta arm wrestle and go full drill sergeant to get patients motivated and start caring for their own health. They get big mad but I’m not here to make friends, I’m here to save lives 🫳🎤

I could see that holding some truth, lots of people can't handle confrontation. But also sometimes practitioners do in fact ignore patients, engage in malpractice, or push unnecessary medication.

There is a reason why within the medical community, recommendations for doctors is done by word of mouth because they are the best people to gauge if someone is actually a good doctor rather than basing it off only one metric or aspects that can be misinterpreted as a good measure of care (bedside manner, admin, etc- even tho these things obviously do matter). So if a a doctor asks their doctor friends who is a good specialist to send their father in law to, that is going to be a much much much better recommendation than anything you use online to pick a specialist

This sounds like very complicated data that requires more thought that what could be attributed to it within this framing. In any case, I would think these people would benefit more from placebo effects but maybe there are diminishing returns with choosing your provider based on the quality of the relationship and other factors that would lead to giving a five star review (although there is evidence contradicting this too).

she said correlation not causation.. its like saying more over weight ppl drink diet soda, they drink it because they are over weight not because it made them over weight. the study could have looked at reviews of patients that had stage 4 cancer or something.

I look for doctors whose low reviews complain about insurance or billing because those are out of the doctor’s control and those patients aren’t complaining about the care there getting

I checked into more studies cuz I ain’t buying her one self-serving citation. There’s a weak correlation between positive reviews and GOOD outcomes.
