Ulquiorra is the fourth espada representing nihilism a term which expresses a feeling of emptiness and that life have no value we see this in the way he portrays himself early on initially sparing ichigo chad and the others because what would be the point to killing something or people that are “useless” there isn’t one we also see this in how he goes about combat he’s very strategic calculating every move with his all seeing eyes that see everything and if he can’t see it it’s not real when he says this he’s not only talking about the physical but the mental as well he has no emotion he doesn’t understand what that even is it’s ironic however because Ulquiorra is a bat yet he only believes in his vision bats are known for having bad vision it isn’t until he meets orihimie a human girl who is clearly full of emotion does he start to get what said emotion is her love for not only Ichigo but her friends intrigues him why does she care about these people when in the end he thinks that there all gonna die weather she likes it or not the strategic move would be to team up with aizen and the other espada since it’s clear that they are stronger and a much safer bet for survival but through multiple interactions and ohrimies restless faith and that her friends will get stronger and come rescue her and the love she has for them Ulqiorra starts to see the bigger picture and doesn’t like it so when he finally gets the chance to shatter this view of the world and stick with what he knows best his strategic nihilistic mindset in the battle with ichigo he does he shows the power gap between Ichigo and himself who was just the 4th strongest espada if Ichigo couldn’t beat him how was he supposed to beat the rest of the espada on top of aizen and the others it isn’t until something impossible happens something no matter how strategic you are you just can not account for love ichigos love for ohrihime and his friends runs so deep that even in death he came back but not as a man as beast something he was trying to suppress something that Ichigo was afraid off in death Ichigo became a hallow something that lacked emotion(just like Ulquiorra) Pt 1 of 2 of me glazing my goat
