there has to be a middle ground somewhere between hyper-collectivism and hyper-individualism.

Network engineer in Japan here. If you have Internet related technical knowledge, there are companies that will hire regardless of Japanese ability.

most foreign qualifications are not recognised in Japan (for general positions, obviously not talking about those who went to Harvard), and Japanese proficiency is also very important since you would be working with mostly other Japanese co workers and Japanese clients, important tasks can't be discussed only with Konichiwa. Well paid positions in major Japanese corps for foreigners are very limited and competitive since a Japanese national who speaks good English would be much preferred even if the position requires high English/foreign language skills. And just think about this, a random Japanese person who speaks no English and have a degree from a random uni somewhere in the country side of Japan that you never heard of coming to the US and hopping to get a job at Boeing or JP Morgan, you would think hes crazy. But funny how foreigners, especially those from western English speaking countries somehow feel so special about themselves, think you could just come out of nowhere, get a decent job in Japan and live the dream life in anime wonderland. The reason why they only ended up in English teaching and modelling because that's the only thing they have, being a foreigner, and having a foreign look.

Its funny how you come here to sugar coat whats really going on. I help you. Extreme racism and dislike against foreigners. If you don’t look Japanese, even if you speak perfect Japanese, they don’t want to work with you. Why don’t you tell the world here that Japanese dont see foreigners as Humans. Did you know gaijin is referred to as “ooni”.
