Also note student loan interest complies daily, so it actually saves you money to pay 1/2 of your payment 2x a month instead of the full payment once a month.

I stopped making monthly payments. I went to my oldest loan (& highest interest rate) and paid the specific group off in full instead of giving them money to disperse however they want and it make little to nothing change. I actually am watching my total decrease by paying by group

Some loan providers will allow you to make payments towards the principle, but you usually have to call them and specifically say that. Some will say they don’t allow you to make payments towards the principle until the interest is paid off, but there are others that if you continue to state that you’d like to make a payment towards your principle ONLY kindly and persistently, they allow it. Really depends on the bank/loan holder though. But definitely worth a call to ask!

i was able to take out a subsidized loan for school, the DOE pays the interest while i’m in school and then i get a 6-month grace period after i graduate!

This was my method, i want to preface that i only had 26k in loans, and i got a good job out of my degree so if you can’t do this, totally understand. I never took out private loans, i only know federal. With fed loans, i was given multiple small loans with 2-4% interest. Instead of paying towards all the loans all at once, i would pick the loan with the highest interest and tackle that one first and so on, most of my check would go towards the loans too
