One of the BEST acting coaches right here. This helped my acting in ways I never knew it could. No acting class can teach what you teach Michael. Thank you. Truly grateful.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Just do the homework and be in the moment if you cry, you cry great if you don’t, you don’t great awesome advice I agree hundred percent. Don’t “play “the emotion just BE in the scene.

I'm not and actor nor will I ever be, but man, I sure do enjoy listening to you talk about your craft. Have been a fan for a while of your acting but this stuff is just darned interesting. Nicely done.

The TT I watched just before this is an illustration of what you’re talking about. It’s a scene where someone is leaving and the other actor is telling a story about how she understands. But the emotion she expresses doesn’t feel right. It’s “acting”, but not in a good way.

What if I want to be a non-speaking background person? I would like to be able to say, that was me! Right there on the street walking by!

I think when the script says he or she cries, it’s only describing the effect not the task. The writer is showing us what happens on the surface, but that’s not what the actor should play. Your job isn’t to try to cry. Your job is to find out why the character breaks down what triggers it.

Any acting 101 class will tell you not to play emotion. Emotions are unreliable and finicky. What makes me mad one minute might make me laugh the next. You’re spot on with circumstance being the key driver.

I appreciate your experience and skill. Though, Your statements do seem a bit contradictory. In the previous video, you assert the actor was wrong and “playing the emotion”. In this video you give a great example from your daughter’s perspective of your emotions. But as a means of comparison it would be your emotions while reading compared to the actress in the previous scene. Your emotions drove the moment which prompted the question from your daughter. In the previous example we don’t have the moment before or the context of the relationship. Your moment before while reading was internal, this could also be true for the character in the previous example. She may have already worked herself into a state internally which compelled her to dialogue. The right choice, emotion to dialogue or dialogue to emotion, is predicated on the context of the scene and overall story. I actually think your previous example wasn’t a commentary on the actor. You even stated it wasn’t her fault. Your disagreement is with the direction/director. Also, if it was a response to who I think it was I would 100% agree with you. I dislike their direction as well lol.
