@dr.dansullivan: What Most Parents Get Wrong About ADHD and Discipline Most parents are told ADHD is just about discipline problems. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. The ADHD brain has plenty of power and energy — but what it really struggles with is control. When parents focus only on punishment, kids don’t suddenly “learn control.” They just feel shame, while the brain misses out on the chance to actually build new skills. The key is structure, consistency, and co-regulation — strategies that strengthen the “brakes” so kids can use their full potential without burning out. When you understand this, discipline becomes less about punishment and more about teaching. What are your thoughts? The balance of not letting things slide vs not being negative and a helicopter parent is almost impossible

What about when visual checklists don’t work? The constant verbal reminders are exhausting for parents

Can you give examples of how to teach him to slow down with schoolwork? He rushes through everything and gets everything wrong when he knows the answer but he just read it wrong (dyslexia doesn’t help)

Yeah this is way too simplified. Unfortunately ADHD is so wide there is no handful of solutions that work for everyone.
