it's almost like war is unhealthy for humans and other living things

As an Army veteran with PTSD, this is 100% why I told my kids they cant enlist in the Marines.

You can’t train people for years to be weapons and then just release them into society after the fact with no disarming through metal health services

Army but when we came home from Iraq, we had to go through a briefing on how not to 💀 your spouse. It was essentially, “don’t unalive your spouse.” The hoops I had to jump through & the shame I had to endure for getting help while in for MST was insane. The fear I had of taking meds once I was a veteran was terrifying. I NEEDED meds. These things should not be stigmatized. And yes, nearly 20 yrs later, I *still* do not feel fully integrated to civilian life. I wonder if I ever will.

"once a marine always a marine"
they never wanted you to leave. so they'll make your civilian life hell.

isn't this off the heels of the Trump admin revoking funds for things like mental health care from vets

it’s indoctrination but it’s also men not being taught from a young age how to emotionally regulate themselves on a mature level. so many of the men recruited into the military, especially army and usmc, come from broken and/or abusive homes.

i’m so glad you found peace in therapy and healing, man. too many service members don’t get that care.

I won’t sympathize with mass murderers but I do think veterans have been betrayed on such an outrageously large scale that people just outright ignore it bc it is so hard to believe

I’m a Marine Afghan Vet. After my first patrol, I stood in my room and thought about how if this was Starwars, I’d be a Stormtrooper

I became a therapist on a military installation for this very reason. The stigma is still there. 💔 My transition was rough & tbh, veteran nonprofits helped fill the gaps where the VA was overburdened. Highly recommend Boulder Crest Foundation.

My husband walked in right when you said, "Your left foot is your k1ll foot." He said, "I haven't heard that in a long time. Is that a marine talking?" 😆 He is a retired marine himself. We don't have that saying in the Army. Not that I can remember anyway.

It took me a solid decade to separate myself from my marine corps self. Anger is easy. Life is great on the other side, but it takes so much time and effort.

My father was a Marine. I remember he told me that training was so intense, you were ready to go into battle with a rock and a sharp stick.

I’m a therapist who sees veterans. This matter is made worse by therapists who are not competent to the culture of the military (your examples are perfect). A lot of vets are trying therapy but have therapists who don’t have the skills to help in the right way. So then they feel hopeless as well as angry, feeling like they are the problem and there is no way to fix it in a healthy way.

My son was a kind-hearted funny kid when he went to Baghdad. What I got back was nothing like that. 15 years later and he is still not what I would call a happy person. He's still kind but he's unbothered. Everything is "oh well shit happens. What are you gonna do?". I'm an empath and it drives me nuts. I'm glad he married and left the country. He needs a peaceful life. The entire atmosphere of this country is too chaotic for veterans. It's oppressive.

My cousin's son came back from Marine boot camp completely changed. He had a dead look in his eyes and was so mean to his wife and baby daughter she left to live with her parents for a year while he was forced by his superiors to get therapy. He's still super edgy and has been collecting high powered weapons. It's worrisome. They really ruined him
