I have a horrible panic disorder with a whole bunch of other things and when I was in college and would have a panic attack, I would feel like I was going to be screamed at or that my professor was going to see me differently because I had to miss class over a mental issue. Whenever I email a teacher explaining why I couldn’t be there, I feel like I have to list all of the symptoms that I still have even after the panic attack is over. I talked to my law and society professor after one and she explained that I needed to go to student services to get accommodations but it was guaranteed that I would have any. So ever time I would have one, I would make myself worse by panicking about failing the class because I was missing it. The school system and social media has taught me that my issues affect everyone badly and I need to apologize for it.

I think the sad reality is a lot of professors/bosses or people in general don’t seem to get that, being in college myself, me and my buddies have had those kind of negative experiences, love this video !

This starts in elementary school when kids and parents are made to feel guilty about illness. Threats of truancy calls to the sheriff and CPS for more than 5 missed days per YEAR. It's sad.

I had a professor roast me for missing class due to needing an emergency appendectomy, he asked if it was necessary. We’ve been shamed for getting sick.

I had sooooo many professors that were NOT understanding and would even penalize us if we were sick so this is a breath of fresh air. Hopefully more professors follow your compassion and understanding!

Perfect Attendance awards in elementary school started this and it caused kids like me who are severely immunocompromised to miss days of school unnecessarily.

I am a chronically ill college student and I have never had a professor be nice to me like this. My disability is an inconvenience for them, so I push myself over my limit constantly cause I have no other choice if I want a good grade, all my breaks are used to recover. I wish more professors understood that you don't know what's going on in their life and some compassion would be nice sometimes and btw this was such a sweet video.
