@historyhit: The Major Oak in Sherwood forest, famous for its link with the legend of Robin Hood, shows us just how important folklore stories are, even in the modern world. 🌳 From Sherwood’s ancient oak to a document hidden in a medieval castle library, Ray Mears examines the evidence for the man behind the legend, asking whether Robin was a real figure, a combination of a number of people, or a timeless symbol of justice. 🎥 Sign up to History Hit now and watch Robin Hood: Ray Mears Folklore Heroes, to find out more. #historyhit #History #folklore #robinhood #medieval

Oaks only live about 5-600 years max. Robin Hood is associated with Richard 1st who died in 1199.

I grew up close by Sherwood Forest and used to visit the major oak all the time. The trunk is hollow and we used to see how many of us could squeeze inside. Looking back, it wasn’t fenced off and me and my friends are probably guilty of damaging it!

Robin Hood?? I think you mean William Marshall who was a highly skilled swordsman and fought for 5 kings. He crossed the path of an Irish Bishop while helping Henry 1st to destroy Leinster and the Irish Bishop told him, for his betrayal of Ireland and it's people, his surname would die with him. And true to the Bishop's words, he had 4 daughters and no sons. So yes, his name Marshall died with him.
