You don't kiss someone with your mouth open like that; besides, before that happened, Apple sort of woke up—meaning she was conscious and not asleep, she just couldn't breathe. Darling saw it, which is how she knew she had to perform CPR. I hate to disappoint those who say Apple is a lesbian.

In fact, one of the designers from that season had said that it was a kiss, but that they disguised it as CPR because of the parents, and that for that very reason it was one of the reasons it was canceled because many of the parents did not like that scene.

I think it's both, nobody wakes up from one breath. Her sitting up might have just been her body forcing the spell out to keep her alive. Plus, cpr wouldn't glow. darling must have given her a true love kiss while also giving her a breath to help her breathe when the curse is lifted

It is CPR but counts as a kiss. Darling wasn’t about to let Apple die, and she is the daughter of Princess Charming

If you look at Darling hand, you'll see that she's clearly placing her fingers on Apple White's nose to seal it completely. This is a basic and mandatory medical procedure for administering artificial respiration (to ensure air enters the lungs directly and doesn't escape through the nose to dislodge the lodged piece of apple). No one seals someone else's nose during a passionate kiss. In the immediately preceding scene, Darling is seen lifting her head, taking a very deep breath, filling her lungs with air, and then quickly bending down to blow it into Apple choking mouth to save her life—an action exclusively reserved for first aid. The official, commercially available Dragon Games novella describes this scene in its literal text as "medical procedure and life-saving CPR for a girl choking on an apple," and the studio removed any wording that might suggest a passionate kiss.
