Today we celebrate Nigeria’s Independence Day. On the 1st of October 1960, our country broke free from British colonial rule and the Green-White-Green flag was raised for the very first time. That moment marked the birth of the Giant of Africa — a nation of over 200 million people, 36 states and one Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with more than 250 ethnic groups and over 500 languages, united as one people. This day is important because it reminds us of the sacrifices of our heroes, the power of unity, and the strength of resilience. It is a day to celebrate our music that now moves the whole world, from Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat to today’s Afrobeats with Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Rema, Asake, and more. It is a day to celebrate our food — Jollof rice, Suya, Egusi with pounded yam, Moi moi, Pepper soup — flavors that speak of our joy and togetherness. It is a day to celebrate our culture — the Igbo masquerades, Yoruba drums, Hausa Durbar festivals, Nollywood films, Ankara fashion, gele, agbada, isiagu — all symbols of our rich identity. Today we remember that Nigerians are everywhere in the world, shining in music, sports, medicine, technology, arts, and business. No matter the challenge, we rise. Because Naija no dey carry last. For 65 years we have stood as one nation, strong, proud, and unshakable. Today, we honor our past, we celebrate our present, and we look forward with hope to a greater future. 💚🤍💚 Happy Independence Day Nigeria! 🦅 #nigerianmovie#giantofafrica🇳🇬🇳🇬👍#foryoupage❤️❤️#nigeriaindependence #nigeriamusic 🇳🇬🎉
