Having an addict in the family, the absolute most severe destruction has been caused by alcohol. Addiction is addiction, the war on drugs is an absolute joke. Choosing what’s ‘good’ and what’s ‘bad’ is nonsense

I totally agree. As a parent we often think about the worst case of addicts and don’t want our kids to start a slippery slope. But that may never happen to them even if they do try it or use it. I think it’s the fear of the worst case that tends to guide a lot of wrong and right decisions.

I’ve worked in alcohol and drug treatment, where alcoholics felt morally superior to the ‘druggies’

Maybe I’m weird but I do not think there is an ethical difference, the only difference is legality.

I don’t believe so. I’ve struggled with substance abuse for most of my adult life. I don’t drink because I know it will become a problem. Not one of my friends thinks it’s wrong to pressure me to drink, but when I suggest a joint? Oh boy, do I get judgement thrown my way.

What about the difference between them physically? i.e. the impact they have on the body.

Look I think this is valuable conversation but you need to speak in actually relative terms. A glass or two of wine is not the same (aka doesn’t have the same impact, connotations or implications or cost) as a line of coke or a tab of ecstasy.

Extremely well said! I wish people would stop listening to legal morality and use their own thoughts.

The only difference is, is what the government sets as law because it's another form of probation! because if it's to much in the favour of the public the government wants that control over it, what ever it may be...
