I’m an OD. I love what I do but the ROI isn’t great. Probably say 50% of OD’s work Saturdays. Most malpractice cases are a failure to diagnose. Loss of vision, partial or total blindness can lead to high stress for the OD. Online pseudo eye exams & we are tied to products (glasses/CL’s). There’s no perfect profession or practice.

Optometry is also super important in preventative care! Lots of diseases are detected in the eye before systemic symptoms are apparent

ODs do more than just fittings, a lot of scans done during your annual visits are observed for health issues or the prevention of worsening diseases as you age or just in general. they safeguard and protect your eyes longevity and your general health through that, as a dentist i’m sure you understand the correlation between the teeth/mouth and general health problems.. it’s not just annual cleanings and flossing haha
