@unscriptedbecca: Not everyone wears rings. For me, the earrings she gave me were my forever — the second most important piece of jewelry she ever gave me. I wore them like a promise, waiting for the day she would place my wedding ring on my hand. When she first left to bring Leroy back, she told me on one of our calls from St. Thomas that she planned to give me that ring and propose back to me on our scheduled Uber Soca Cruise that it was my surprise and for me to please come to Puerto Rico where our ship was leaving port. She also said she wanted to give me a chain like the one she gave her son, because in her culture those chains carry meaning — just like the Crucian bracelet just like the Crucian bracelet from St. Croix she gave me. Those words stayed with me, because they weren’t just about jewelry… they were about love, family, and the future we were building. She promised she would come back home. But she never did. And I never saw Leroy again. Today, I had to remove the earrings for a scan. The metal came off, but the love and the meaning behind them still live in me.
