Ezra perfectly represented everything that is wrong with the Democrat Party and liberal ideology. A bunch of capitulation, posturing, and white supremacy veiled as pragmatism.

maybe this is my privilege speaking, but I don't know how someone like Ezra Klein can get to that point in his life without ever really unpacking where he's at. Shouldn't the tensions that he's ignorant of be evident just, say, walking outside?

I get why a lot of people who feel disenfranchised side more with Coates than Klein, but as long as we are a democracy, winning the majority matters. Losing more people to Trump and the right has a very real possibility to make things much much worse. That was Ezra’s whole point. Idealism only gets you so far if you ignore the political realities.

Ezra Klein feels like he is trying to make necropolitics palatable, finding “normality” through “necessary” sacrifices of targeted groups

Ezra Klein was definitely not listening to anything being said to him. You can see it in some of his examples and his brining up like Buddhist sayings that have nothing to do with what was being said. It was so hard to watch on so many levels

it felt so weird to view Coates' view as fatalistic when, to me, I thought it was so hopeful. like.....how comforting to know that the struggle will continue beyond me. to know that just because I don't get to see it, doesn't mean that it won't happen

there's a ton of people who's entire ideology is "I agree that everyone should have rights but it's not practical to run on that because it doesn't have enough support" without ever considering whether or not there'd be enough support if they all stopped thinking it was "impractical" and just started fighting for the morally correct position

Ezra Klein is how the DNC leadership thinks. Instead of POLICIES that help people, they are prepared to jettison some folks.

they really are having two different conversations. Ezra is looking for a strategy to get democrats elected, with the idea that a dem majority will necessarily lead to more progressive policies. tnc is talking about deriving your politics from an ethical core, and then ",fighting for that" in some nebulous way. its the difference between an activist, or community organizer, and a political operative. the thing is, what Ezra is talking about-the strategy of pandering to bigots to get things like the aca past-iw what we've been doing for decade's, and led us directly to this moment.
