May I counterpoint? You’re right to say everything is vastly different yet everything is also the same (in a comforting, still technically “at home” way). Like yes you’re in a tropical climate, with alligators, friendlier service, wide open spaces compared to the frigid, urban, blunt atmosphere of Boston yet there’s an underlying American vibe that blankets all these places. I’m from NYC but fly to LA often for family, stark differences for sure but I know my Costco card will work there, I know the road rules and signage are going to be consistently the same, we’ll spark up a political debate talking about the same issues, we’ll talk about the football game from last night that we all watched even though we’re 3,000 miles apart. It still strangely feels like home everywhere in America.

And I'm guessing your route was just straight down the coast. Go a little inland on that and you hit the Appalachians and a whole different climate and culture, The same with dricing further west..

That’s why a lot of people don’t have passports in America. I never had one until I was 33 and I had to move to Sicily. America is just amazing and I can’t wait to move back! 🥰

Before the big box stores took over, the diversity was was way more pronounced. In the ‘70’s and 80’s, it really was like different worlds.

The US is really more like 50 unique countries that banded together under one overarching government. Yet the 50 states also each have their own governments and laws. To think that Hawaii and Kansas are parts of the same country is just mind-boggling.

we have that difference in even our states I'm in Louisiana and there are like 4 distinct regions that have different cultures some similarities but some major differences too.

Nice to hear. I have seen a lot of UK people on here complaining that there is too much choice. I have never understood how having choice is a bad thing. Also that portions are too big— you can take it home if you don’t finish? It is baffling to me.

I enjoy your analysis and insights. Just an FYI: be aware of your surroundings when walking your dog. They do have alligators. When I was little, I visited my grandparents and we opened the condo elevator, and there was an alligator in the elevator facing away from us thank goodness, but you just never know where they’re gonna be. Keep an eye your pup.
