@jenniferborget: Jayda has read Percy Jackson no less than 19 times. I first read it when she was a toddler and fell in love with the series then read it to her when she was 5. A couple years later, when Jayda was diagnosed with dyslexia, her response was an enthusiastic “I’m like Percy Jackson!” I’ve continued to be so grateful for the diversity and representation throughout his stories, now evident in Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro’s Court of the Dead (I’m currently on chapter 12 and loving it.) The author pair made a book tour stop in Austin and we were so incredibly lucky to be able to meet them and say thank you for the impact their work has had on our lives. I still enjoy these middle grade books as an adult, and I’m currently reading the series to Ty and Lee Lee (we are 60% through The Sea of Monsters).
