pagan religions had Gods above humans and humans that could become themselves incarnations of those gods. like in Hinduism. or be just messengers like in Judaism and Islam. in Buddhism and Christian religion is different, Buddha is a MANIFESTATION of an enlightened being, and Christ is also a MANIFESTATION of God on earth not a simple messenger. God is not standing above Christ any longer, because God abandoned him on the cross. In reality there's no God after enlightenment, because the idea of a God concept is only useful before complete enlightenment occurs in Buddhism or Christ ascension to heavens in Christianity. when this happens we can return to feminine goddess practices (the true real God is feminine and linked to nature's elements)
