@fertilitydrnagla: ⏰ Do women really have a biological clock? Lately I’ve seen more online saying women don’t and that it’s actually men who do. I understand the point, but this framing can be misleading (and even harmful). ✔️ It’s well established that as maternal age increases, the risk of aneuploidy (having the wrong number of chromosomes) goes up. This is the biggest driver of recurrent implantation failure, miscarriage risk, and some genetic abnormalities. ✔️ At the same time, we are learning more about male fertility and things like sperm DNA fragmentation and its impact on miscarriage risk. That’s important too. But here’s the nuance: The “biological clock” has too often been used to shame women. That’s not what I’m advocating for. What matters is informed choice — we can’t change our biology, but we can understand it and make decisions that are right for us. 📍 have you seen this kind of messaging online? Let me know what you think in the comments. #biologicalclock #infertility #miscarriage #ttc #maleinfertility

I mean…I’ve always thought that realistically, both men and women’s fertility declines with age…

would love to see studies from european countries where it's normal to have children in late 30s and well into their 40s, because everyone seems perfectly healthy there.

I don't understand why scientific facts turn into a gender war. Everything declines with age, and that's a fact. But I am glad that now it's more balanced than before. Thanks for saying this Dr.

How about countries like Spain where 50% of women give birth after hitting 40?

I think people just want men to start taking accountability for their biological clock. women already make drastic changes in their lives even in their early 30s, from rushing into marriage with the wrong partner etc. but men think they have forever just because the type of age affect is more re: autism etc or miscarriages for their female partner. which isn't counted as detrimental aging from paternal factors

Thanks for this post.. I don't understand why these misinformation posts keep coming up? I understand that as we age, the chances of birth defects and problems conceiving can increase.. But how many women over 55yo conceive naturally and how many men over 55yo naturally father a child?

So what I’m taking from this as a man, is that (shockingly) both parties seem to have a role in this, not just one? 😅

I’m an older Mum and I think it’s great we’re hearing more success stories to counter the narrative that after 35 you’re infertile (which used to be what was said). However, saying we don’t have a biological clock is wrong and dangerously misleading. Feels like now the narrative is being pushed too far in the other direction

the goal is to be able to talk about biological facts in a neutral way without using them for misogynistic goals, but the method is wrong.. we won’t get far with misinformation. and trying to flip the narrative just plays into the trap of seeing women only through reproductive lens
