the way i literally had no idea ab the risk of getting red ink until AFTER i got one and fully got my first tattoo red freshly 18 and my artist never educated me either😭 my skin took the ink fine so it was crazy when i found out its not for everyone

This is incredibly predictable as far as red pigments go. Generally, red pigments are less color-fast than other colors across the board in not only tattoos, but hair color, cosmetic pigments, paints, etc. Red and red-based tertiary colors in cosmetics are pretty difficult to formulate in powder products, for example, and frequently suffer from being patchy or difficult to blend on application (especially vegan red pigments). Red hair colors tend to have a reputation of fading the fastest and needing consistent touchups and particular care if you want to maximize color retention. My skin eats up red pigments from my tattoos too, but mostly in the healing phase. Red touch-ups or general lack of "sticking" is pretty common, from what my own artist has said.

I have a purple tattoo that fades within like 6 months. It’s still here but it’s not as vibrant as I wanted it. My artist said if I need it retouched again, I should just get black ink.

It is fairly common for some people to reject red ink. I had a friend who got lady bugs and the red ink parts fell out in huge clumps within a week. She had other tattoos that were fine and healed well. Its was just the red
