For the longest I’ve been hearing that the ppl who coined the term Soulaan believes we’re Native Americans but that’s not even the truth. The people who coined the term Soulaan acknowledges the Black Americans that came here before the transatlantic slave trade, they also acknowledge that our ancestors were African but makes the very valid point that others shouldn’t mistake us for being African even though our ancestors were. Soulaan is a term that identifies a Black American as a descendant of Black American slaves, African slaves, potentially Native Americans, and the Black Native Americans that came here before the big trade. It doesn’t disregard one for the other. And that’s what people can’t wrap their head around. When we say “we’re not African” we aren’t saying we don’t descend from Africans at all, we’re saying we have a different ethnic identity and background from Africans and that should be recognized and respected.

Folks will try so hard to dismiss their African Ancestry but will accept Indigenous American and European.. Very delusional. Soulaan typically has 3 components of DNA that being Africa, Europe and Indigenous American.
