@frontlinefortherecord: (PART 1) What's it like to live with black lung? Hear from a 47-year-old former coal miner as he reflects on his life and career and living with the deadly disease in these scenes from FRONTLINE and @npr's 2019 documentary "Coal's Deadly Dust." #blacklung #lungdisease #coalminer #documentary
Black lung has ruined so many lives including my family members. My husband said he was going to go into the mines. I said absolutely not. It’s not worth it

Lots of ignorant comments here. I'm hoping it's just being uneducated
1. Coal is used for more than just electricity. A LOT more. However coal is 45% more efficient than anything else.
2. Black Lung is an old disease. This was before government legislation on dust control and new technology for respiratory PPE. It's becoming non existent.

ITS NOT COAL. ITS THE COAL COMPANIES! Coal provides a way of living for the people of Appalachia that have absolutely NOTHING else. But greedy coal company owners put profit above employee safety. Don’t just demonize coal because you don’t know the difference. Coal clothed, fed, and provided me a life. As well as my dad. It’s all we have.

Lotta folks think theyre too tough to wear respirators and be a little uncomfortable or learn to adjust. Theyre provided for miners. You ignore it and good chance itll happen, back in the day they were ignorant of it. Now it’s mostly just stupidity everyone underground is aware of the risks.
