ICE, in a statement to the media, defended its action, noting that Kaur had exhausted all her legal remedies, including appeals up to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and that ICE was enforcing U.S. law. Harjit Kaur had been living in the U.S. for 33 years and had been complying with routine ICE check-ins for over 13 years after her asylum claim was denied in 2012.
