Over 15,000 people died and half a million were poisoned yet most people outside India have never even heard of it. The culprit? Union Carbide, an American chemical company. To save money, they shut down safety systems, ignored leaks, and left deadly chemicals rotting in huge storage tanks. When disaster struck, they called it an “accident.” Chernobyl is remembered. Bhopal is buried. Why? Because the victims were poor. Because they were Indian. Because their lives were judged as less valuable.
