He was 🩸 from his face, lying on the ground, but he insists he’s ‘ok’ and even gets up to sit on a nearby rock and wash his face. He refuses treatment, possibly because he’s undocumented or uninsured. The driver acts guilty, crying crocodile tears for the camera, and avoids being recorded by police. Bystanders and even officers seem to treat the situation lightly, laughing and siding with her. He doesn’t speak English, is pressured not to press charges, and ultimately she drives away with just a ticket or court summons. It’s tragic and highlights how vulnerable immigrants can be in these situations, even when clearly harmed. The court system won’t pay him as much as they would to a Citizen.
