@diablo23is: Ibram Gaunt , who holds the title of Colonel- Commissar , is the commander of the 1st Tanith Regiment , and a close friend of the late Warmaster Slaydo . An orphan, he studied at Ignatus Cardinal's Schola Progenium under the stern eye of Master Boniface. As a cadet commissar , he was attached to the 8th Hyrkian Regiment alongside Commissar-General Delan Okar. Shortly after the Battle of Balhaut , he was sent to the Forest World of Tanith Magna, in the Segmentum Pacificus , to oversee the 1st Founding of three regiments. Unfortunately, a Chaos fleet arrived and destroyed the planet. Gaunt was left with the equivalent of a full regiment, but his charisma ensured the full cooperation of his inexperienced but talented men. He became famous for turning the catastrophic Battle of Vervun on Verghast into a heroic and victorious siege. A year later, he nearly lost his rank in the "disaster" at Hagia Doctrinopol. Two and a half years later, he and his regiment were strangely claimed by the reincarnated Saint Sabbat , and once again, Gaunt distinguished himself. But it was a year after the Battle of Herodor that he performed his greatest feat: an operation behind enemy lines on Gereon to kill a traitor, Lord General Noches Sturm . Sturm was the overall commander of the Imperial forces at the Battle of Vervun, but his cowardice cost him a hand at the hands of Gaunt. Gaunt completed his mission on Gereon with a team of hand-picked soldiers, and returned sixteen months later to Ancreon Sextus to find his regiment disbanded.
