@casabolanos: What makes Uruguay rich? 🇺🇾 Let’s start by saying no country is perfect. People struggle everywhere and inequality is a real issue. That being said, Uruguay takes care of its citizens and residents better than many countries I’ve seen Don’t take my word for it. This information is easily accessible through a quick google search. Uruguay is constantly surpassing the United States in education, healthcare, and infrastructure So, while having access to global brands doesn’t necessarily make a country rich, how Uruguay has modeled its nation and invests in innovation and its people is what makes it rich. Uruguay is insanely expensive right now. Locals are really struggling. It’s a place with extreme income inequality. Source: Uruguayan with family in Uruguay. Education is great and accessible but it’s a hard life otherwise.

As a teacher in Uruguay, I can tell you that the education system is not great, it is okay. The investment in education is not great so even though education is free, it doesn’t receive funding so students are getting the best education possible which is not always the best, excuse the redundancy. I studied in the U.S and I see the gaps. Students learn English in public schools but it’s very basic so students are definitely not bilingual. They would have to pay for private lessons after school to be bilingual. Hope that info helps!

A lot of this is perspective. You have the education and money to travel and live where you see fit; many people do not have that luxury. It’s easy to be firm in opinions when privilege is there. I’m not saying one country is better than the other. I am saying it’s easy to talk about or gloss over but not really realize the problems of others socioeconomic classes when there is money and means to not experience it. The goal is to have open minds and realize some people are just doing the best they can, regardless of where they live.
