@mindymhatch: A story time glimpse of what it was like for me growing up as a Mormon. I’ve never shared any of this before but do get asked a lot about my experience in the church. I get nervous to talk about it out of respect for my families privacy, and the desire to not come across as hateful or disrespectful to anyone else’s belief system. This is just what I grew up with and how it’s progressed since 🫶
People throw the word trauma around way too easy. Your childhood sounded incredible.

The fact that you’re wearing a cross necklace is impressive. Mormon’s do not wear or will you see a cross in church. Am I correct? It’s been awhile since I was active in the church. X member here with the LDS church.

So your parents had standards…..Your mom sounds like a wonderful role model and woman. Your dad doesn’t say anything now probably because you’re an adult. He taught you standards growing up and did his job to raise you the way he thought was right. Now he probably understands you have your own agency now and your decisions are ultimately yours.

I got banned from a friends house cause I came back smelling like coffee that their parents had brewing lol 😂 Just the fact they had coffee in their house, I wasn’t ever able to go there again. WILD

The end part! We can all respect each others beliefs and we don’t need to put others beliefs down 💯🙌🏽

growing up LDS in UT seems like it was an experience. I was born and adopted through the LDS church in California, it was definitely strict but nothing like what I’ve seen and heard others growing up with the church out here. 🫶🏾🙏🏾🌺

I don’t think I’ve ever been more interested to hear someone’s life story to get from there to here.👀

ive learned that parents that stick to strict rules love their kids. it's harder to live a standard than to not. you're lucky to have great parents. despite what you think. parents don't do everything right they just do their best. clearly your parents love you. I'm sure you know that but I'm amazed at parents thar stick to a standard. its hard work.

Thanks for saying this. I’m not practicing but this is relatable to many in Utah. I get frustrated with all the hate that most people express on both sides. Love is so important and to find the good, hate will consume!

The showing the shoulders thing for sports is so wild to think about. It was the same for me. And to see now what Mormon youth wear… I’m like, we were seriously robbed of our youth.

That is “Mormon” culture not the LDS church. Two totally different things but yes you were raised in “Mormon” culture.

I grew up in the Catholic Church and had to get over religious trauma too. My family wasn't as extreme as yours, but not far behind.

I left the church over 10 years now, and I just had a long conversation with my younger brother (who is a bishop). It was nice to disagree with eachother on certain things while we both still respect eachother knowing that we’re both just trying to be good people. The church traumatized me in so many ways, but the members of the church are very good people (most of them) and I really appreciate how hard they work to be good people.

Teach me how to change my brain!!! I can’t take the “garment girlies” posting links and saying “ smaller the garment smaller the straps” and saying order two sizes down and all this stuff. Nothing has bugged me since leaving besides this. Help me

I grew up my parents really didnt care about shorts or tanks but stricked about other things like sundays were super strict and language was strict and curfews and dating. It was a judgement call parents made it wasnt a rule for the LDS church
