You guys arent getting it, “did you girlboss too close to the sun” is a parody of the tale old as time, icarus. The man with wax wings that flew too high/ too close to the sun and his wax wings melted. Now lets look at what the phrase “girlboss” means. confident, ambitious woman, So what does that mean? It means “were you so ambitious you failed?” This is her noting on how the industry puts down ambitious women, yet acclaim you as a “girlboss” they love to advertise girlbosses, but they hate to see an ambitious woman thrive. This is further enforced by her next lyric, “ did they catch you having too much fun” another note on how the media is out to get you, or at least the masses, when you accumulate fame from your ambition. We see this in action with, for example, the grammys. Taylor swift seen dancing, drinking, and singing along at the Grammys/award shows, gets backlash. If you look at a video you will see people saying she is cringe, unprofessional and down right rude. So she is saying “are the successes of your ambitions causing you to fall? Which she explains by falling she means the backlash she receives for not living up to the pedestal thrust upon her by the media and her fans by simply living her normal life and having fun, instead of being an idol. Smh it’s so obvious: don’t turn your idols into gods, because you will be disappointed when they bleed.
