I know we think it's a song about love, but also I think Eldest Daughter is a song or vow to ourselves. As we find healing in learning to let the guard down, we realize we need to care for ourselves. I keep hearing that "I'm never gonna let you down, never gonna break that vow" as a promise to ourselves.

As the eldest daughter, and now basically the primary caregiver to my parents who are in their 90s, this song is a gut punch. I remember my mom saying to me I don’t worry about you like I do your brother and for some reason that really hurt. I understand a little more now since I’ve become a parent, but it doesn’t make it any easier.
