They are not lying. In Florida some even go to Seaworld. I’m not kidding. We also, have had to send a patient to the post office to get weighed cause our scale didn’t go high enough.

X-ray here I’ve had to send people to the special address when I lived in Denver. All machines have limits and when they are too large or too heavy they have to go there. Not just fat. There was a body builder who was too large to fit.

This is true! A patient on my floor needed an MRI and would have needed to go to a zoo to get the imaging done. That patient refused to go though so we didn’t end up sending them.

We had to have a zoo assist in cremating a patient that was too large to fit into a regular cremator

Truth. 💯 hospital mris and cts have weight and width restrictions and they are not that extreme. More and more, patients do not fit in these hospital sized imaging units and they need to be sent to the zoo imaging as they can accommodate larger patients. We were just talking about this at my hospital two days ago how they need to start giving us a larger machine in the hospital.

I’ve never seen it happen but I have heard stories about it happening. I’ve met somebody who had to bring a patient to the zoo for imaging because she was too big to fit in the machines. This EMT felt so bad telling this patient that she needed to bring her to the zoo for imaging. The patient was like “I knew you were going to say that. I’ve been to the zoo for imaging before. I know I’m a big lady & I know I’m too big to fit inside a machine here so don’t feel bad. It’s my fault that I’m this big.”

I work at a horse hospital and I had a 3a phone call from a human hospital trying to send a patient for a stat MRI. We cannot accommodate at our facility. It’s a liability issue. Also our mri is a standard human mri so it wouldn’t have helped anyways.

Legit. Larger pts may not fit in standard hospital equipment.

Yes I've seen it happen three times. I would personally be mortified if I had to be scanned on a large animal machine at the zoo.

Not just imagining. South Florida, hospitals loose too much money on hyperbaric. If you have the bends you will be keeping polo ponies company.

I had an mri yesterday. I’m an average size 6-8 and it’s kind of tight. I was thinking the whole time how would everyone fit.
