right behind you Rich, seen too many. my friend was a hyundia parts manager, they kept engines on site because it's so bad. I just priced 12k in repairs because it's only offered in short block.

Outliers are not the answer. 1 in a million success story is not good odds 🏁

On top of poor design they used 20 weight oil here in the states where they use 30 and 40 weight everywhere else in the world.

So maintenance isn’t key? Yes these motors are horrible and no fault of the owner.

Rich, every single person that has claimed these HIGH miles always always has had some serious work done along the way. I ran a FB Group for Hyundai/KIA. I’m in a large one now and been documenting everything for 4yrs. Claims like theirs is a lie.

What does 380k tell us? He’s either making stuff up for attention or on the highway all the time. No shifts. No straining on parts. Even the tires will last forever. The conditions for that vehicle are favorable for a long life. For example, I live in the mountains of New Hampshire with steep hills and winding sharp corners. So I get a lot of wear and tear on the drivetrain and suspension. My tires don’t last very long. Or brakes. By the time I get to 100 K the vehicle is tired.

When I was a Hyundai we had dozens of these cars with the Theta engines that were waiting in engines most if them were vehicles that we as the dealership regularly maintained.

I wonder if he was to change oil on it right away, say in a 1000 miles right when you buy it. If that would make a big difference of getting all that machining debris out of the engine and keep changing it regularly. To catch these things, if that would make a difference, I'm just wondering that working in the factory for a while.I see that you cannot get everything out. When you're building something on a production scale, that's why I would never take a new anything on a long trip.Right off the bat, I would rather service. It right away to get those machine debris out.And to let it break in
