Meeting at 12pm, St Peter’s Square, Manchester* 🇵🇸 *April 17th marks Palestinian Political Prisoners’ Day, this year we mark it as the genocide in Gaza rages on 18 months* since October 7th, as Palestinians across Gaza continue to be suffocated by a debilitating siege, and as the rest of occupied Palestine is crippled under apartheid and settler-colonialism. *This Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, over 10,000 Palestinians are incarcerated in Israeli dungeons, and it marks the deadliest year for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody. 63 known prisoners killed since October 7 due to systematic torture, starvation, medical neglect, and extrajudicial executions. With thousands of Palestinians from Gaza being detained, arrested, and forcibly disappeared by the hands of Israel’s carceral system of torture and arbitrary detention.* The joy of Ahmad Manasra’s release this week, is diminished by the ongoing reality of occupation. Ahmad was kidnapped by Israel at age 13 and brutally detained for almost a decade. Ahmad’s childhood was ripped from him، particularly after having spent 2 years trapped within a 2x2 metre cell in solitary confinement. *More than 350 children are still detained by Israel, all of whom are considered a “threat” to the survival of the Zionist entity. This is not to mention over 3,400 political prisoners who remain in administrative detention,* a power derived from the era of British colonialism over Palestine, and which ensures Palestinians remain indefinitely detained at the whim and control of Israel, denied justice and freedom for years on end. *This is by no means the first instance of support and exchange of repressive tactics between Britain and Israel. This is why we rise up* to denounce the long standing complicity of Britain in Palestinian suffering, and to call for the dismantling of Israel.
