@socialmediaamy: Next Stop: One of the most breathtaking film locations is of course Mount Doom! The volcanic slopes dominate the skyline in Tongariro National Park. Standing at the base of Mt. Ngauruhoe, it’s impossible not to feel the weight of Frodo and Sam’s journey, the tension of the final quest, and the raw beauty of this pivotal location.  📍 Mount Doom, Mt. Ngauruhoe – Tongariro National Park 🧭 How to find it- The desert road offers beautiful views, but it was closed to us as we visited in winter- we found the best views were on State highway 47. As we headed up to the Whakapapa Ski fields (off SH 48- the road where the Chateau is).
 ⭐️ Access can be restricted during the winter months, but you bonus snowy mountain tops. First Table was a god send for saving money- download the app and you can get 50% of food at certain times. The peak is considered sacred to the local Māori iwi (people), and they have requested that visitors refrain from climbing to the summit. The New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC) has also removed signs leading to the summit to discourage climbing. 🏕️ Where to Stay? Taupo- is a good stop off for this location, we stayed there for a couple of nights on the way back down the island. You can see the ranges from the lake and get some beautiful views. 🎟️ What else is local?
