Rarity and Lavender were visiting the chaos household when it happened. Arcane and Lavender were outside playing when Arcane showed off some new tricks of his umbra magic that his father was training him how to control. Arcane was slightly nervous on how Lavender would react, as many ponies were fearful of his power, but to his suprise, Lavender merely looked at his magic with awe. She had never seen such magic and thought it was simply beautiful. Lavender felt drawn to it somehow and excitedly pleaded to Arcane for him to teach her some of it. Arcane, encouraged at his friend’s enthusiasm and lack of fear, happily agreed to do so as he began to carefully instruct her on how to wield it. Lavender took to it easily, and managed to control it rather well. But then Lavender gained the idea of combining this power with a crystal spell her mother had taught her, just to see what happens and hoping to show off her new trick to her mom. So Lavender, driven by her curiosity and ambition, started combining the two types of magic together, ignoring Arcane’s warnings. As her magic built, she began levitating from the sheer magical intensity as her flank then lit up, her cutie mark appearing. Arcane could only stand by and watch in astonishment at the display before the moment was interrupted by Rarity, who was panickly galloping towards the scene. Rarity called out to her daughter as she stared in distress at the scene of her daughter being overwhelmed with powerful magic. She turned to Arcane and demanded he tell her what happened as Arcane stuttered out how he was only teaching her some of his magic. Rarity angerly yelled at him, saying that Lavender is just a filly and he should have never taught her such dangerous magic. Lavender’s magic then bursted out in a wave of raw power as her body then fell to the ground, utterly drained and unable to handle the amount of magic that erupted from her. Rarity quickly rushed to her daughter and cradled her in her hooves. Arcane tried to approach them to see if Lavender was ok but was stopped by Rarity’s glare and her horn flaring in warning for him to stay back, causing him to shrink down in shame. Arcane’s parents then came over to the scene with Fluttershy immediately going to Rarity’s side, checking Lavender’s condition as Discord stayed by his son. A moment that should’ve been a celebration was instead overshadowed with fear, as Rarity was terrified of the future her daughter’s cutiemark indicates.
