@vt.physics: Why Do Bullets Spin Like Beyblades? When a bullet is fired from a rifled barrel, it gains both forward momentum and rapid rotation due to the spiral grooves inside the gun. If that bullet later comes to rest on a sheet of ice (without embedding itself or losing too much spin), it may continue rotating in place. The key lies in the ice’s extremely low coefficient of friction, which offers little resistance to rotational motion. As a result, the bullet’s angular momentum is largely conserved, allowing it to spin visibly for several seconds or more.
