A pause in the usual content to celebrate the fierce, passionate, and boundary pushing woman I get to call my Nana. When they say kids learn by watching you, they mean it. 1. Eat well. Food is a religion. She literally judged our boyfriends on what/how they ate at dinner. No matter how unannounced your visit, you will still be fed. A lot. 2. Life can be hard, but attitude is everything. Happiness is a choice. (You'll never hear her complain about her aches or the times she had to eat snails for survival during war. She does love telling the story though!).  3. Work hard. (She was still making and selling aprons in her 80s - she's still making them now but just for fun. Homemade pasta is always worth the effort).  4. Be kind. Be selfless. Be generous, in time and resources. (She developed and maintained the garden at local railway station for years as a volunteer to cheer everyone up as they went to work.)  5. Don't take yourself too seriously. Drink a little too much sometimes. Dance, sing, laugh loudly and enjoy your friends. There are tears for every occasion. 6. Family is everything. Be loyal but know that sometimes family is more behaviour than blood. 7. Don't be afraid to disappoint people. If you don't like the accepted norm, change it.  (Against her parents' advice, she moved abroad alone at 19, learnt English, married a guy they didn't approve and made a happy life for herself anyway).  8. You don't stop doing things because you get old. You get old because you stop. She was still climbing a rickety ladder to pick figs from her tree at 90. 9. Appreciate what you have. You need less than you think. The joy she gets from growing her own fruits and tending her garden is kind of magical.  10. Don't go outside with wet hair. Don't let your feet get cold. (She has never failed to find slippers in my size if i show up barefoot. Hand knitted socks are a symbol of love, expect them as gifts often.)  So lucky to have her as my Nana. (You can blame her for kicking off my Italy obsession 😆🇮🇹).   Tell me something cool you've learned from your grandparents! . . #travelitaly🇮🇹 #italiannonna #ladolcevita #lifelessons #aginggracefully
