To move a physical object such as a leaf, a real force must be exerted and real momentum and energy must be transferred by known physical fields or particles. To lift a leaf of mass m = 1\times10^{-3}\ \mathrm{kg}, the minimum upward force required to counter gravity is F = mg = 9.81\times10^{-3}\ \mathrm{N}. A leaf is composed mostly of water, a weak diamagnetic material with magnetic susceptibility \chi \approx -9\times10^{-6}. The magnetic force on a small diamagnetic object with volume V in a magnetic field B with gradient \nabla B is approximately F_{\text{mag}} = (\chi V/\mu_0)(B\nabla B), where \mu_0 = 4\pi\times10^{-7}\ \mathrm{H/m}. For the 1 g leaf, V = 1\times10^{-6}\ \mathrm{m^3}. Solving for the required product B\nabla B to levitate it gives |B\nabla B| = (F\mu_0)/(|\chi|V) \approx 1.4\times10^{3}\ \mathrm{T^2/m}. In laboratory diamagnetic levitation, strong superconducting magnets producing multi-tesla fields and large gradients are used to achieve such conditions. In contrast, the human brain produces magnetic fields on the order of 10^{-12} to 10^{-15}\ \mathrm{T} with gradients around 10^{-10}\ \mathrm{T/m}. Thus, the brain’s effective B\nabla B is about 10^{-22}\ \mathrm{T^2/m}, roughly 25 orders of magnitude too small to lift even a tiny object. The Lorentz force law, \mathbf{F} = q(\mathbf{E} + \mathbf{v}\times\mathbf{B}), shows that only charged particles experience electromagnetic forces, but a leaf is electrically neutral overall. The weak electric fields generated by neural activity are on the order of microvolts per centimeter, far below what would be needed to accelerate neutral matter. Producing a 0.01 N force via electric fields would require massive charge separation or voltages impossible
