@ibolt07: In 2027, I will begin a hiatus from attending furry cons. I have 4 currently planned for 2026 but 2027 will be the first calendar year since 2009 I will attend zero cons. So, you might be asking why? Cons are amazing! Why would you want to not go to any? So uh... after 2026 if all goes according to plan I will have attended a total of 36 conventions in 17 years - that's an average of just over 2 per year. So, it's safe to say... guys, I'm exhausted. I'm exhausted of the logistics, I'm exhausted from the financial bind, I'm exhausted that it basically creates a 2 week blackout for me where I have to work every day leading up to in so I can afford to have that weekend off - I'm a server-bartender at a restaurant by the way, just for clarification. Another reason besides just exhaustion though is just... general burnout. I became obsessed with attending cons in the early to mid 2010s - every day was just another day to get through to the next cons, but one philosophy I followed was that it was the distance between events that made the magic happen. When the con was close I began to count down the days with anticipation and excitement, on the week of I'd get a little anxious but I'd be excited! Then the day would come and I felt on top of the world! And then leaving the con? I would feel depressed that it was over. I'm gonna be real - I haven't felt any of this in a while. All I feel is... stress. I don't exactly feel like "I wanna go home" or anything, maybe minus a particularly stressful moment at Bewhiskered this past year where I ran my first dance comp, or FWA 2015 but I made a long-form video covering that, but I can tell it's time to take a break - find new experiences with friends, try new things - ya'll know I've never actually been to a NASCAR race despite being a fan for 20 years as of this week? But yeah, the absolute earliest I'd return is for Carolina Furfare at the end of 2028. But ya'll will still see me here, but it's time for me to take a step back and listen to my gut and my gut tells me I am exhausted. And, of course, cons are a magical experience and I blame no one for going to a bunch - but burnout can happen to anyone in anything. Hell, I've burnt out of alot of things I like doing, sometimes multple times! So, moral of the story? Listen to burnout. That's all!
