Italy's best kept secret might just be its coastline in Calabria. Similar waters to Sardinia, a fraction of the crowds and beaches that rival anything else in the Mediterranean. We have been curating this region and these five are the five beaches I couldn't recommend more. 📍 Spiaggia Arcomagno, San Nicola Arcella A natural rock arch framing crystal clear water between the Amalfi Coast and Tropea. One of the most stunning beaches in Italy and the reason we drove from Rome to Calabria instead of taking the train. Entry is managed and tickets cost €4 per adult. Book in advance in high season. A 15 to 20 minute hike to get down, worth every step. 📍 Spiaggia Michelino A wild beach that requires a short hike down steep stairs to reach. No facilities on site so bring drinks, snacks and sun protection. The water colour here is extraordinary and the effort to get there keeps it beautifully uncrowded. One of those beaches you remember for years. 📍 Spiaggia della Rotonda, Tropea Right below Tropea town, which makes it almost impossibly rare. Waters this clear this close to a town simply do not happen in most of Italy. Mostly public with a lido option too. The combination of the clifftop town above and the turquoise sea below is one of the most unique and beautiful settings I have found anywhere. 📍 Spiaggia Marinella di Zambrone Two bays, wild and completely unspoiled. The hike down is easy and well maintained. Bring everything you need as there are no facilities. The kind of beach that makes you feel like you found something nobody else knows about. 📍 Tonnara di Palmi, Costa Viola A place locals keep quietly to themselves. Dramatic rock formations rising from the sea that reminded me of Tonnara di Scopello in Sicily. Mostly wild and unserviced but with a lido option nearby. The history of the old tuna fishing industry gives it a soul that more famous beaches simply do not have. Full details on parking, lidos and more stunning beaches across Calabria are going into my curated guide. Comment CALABRIA to join the waitlist. Follow along for more of this extraordinary region. #calabria #eurosummer #italytravel #slowtravel #mediterranean
