its cheaper for me to buy basic and just check in my carry on then buying the next ticket up that includedes the carry on. I hate that they did this so much.

Sadly, Frontier Spirit Southwest are the reasons why basically economy exists. Legacy carriers like American Delta United need to compete with those ultra low-cost carriers.

They will also purposely sit a minor completely separate from their parents in hopes that families will pay for seat selection. Because it is absolutely acceptable for a 2 year old to sit with complete strangers. You can sometimes fix it at the gate, but not always.

They also use to have seats that fit more people and had some leg room. But they have CONSISTENTLY shrunk the seats and we blame each other!

Basic economy exists for the same reason every other cut has been implemented. Te traveling public demands three things and so airlines oblige. Those are: low fares, low fares, and low fares.

I remembering flying as a kid and meals were included on short flights. I LOVED getting a hot meal in the air. Now you’re lucky if you get a cookie.

Not just carry ons you used to be able to have several checked bags too. I remember visiting family abroad and being able to bring bags of stuff for them and it was free

The airlines used to heavily regulated by federal government. Look at photos of plane travel pre 1970s and tell me how deregulation has helped anyone besides shareholders 😩

Basic economy was introduced by the big 3 US airlines in an attempt to gain market share back from the ultra low cost carriers who at the time were thriving while the big 3 were sluggish. Also in today's world nobody, even if you paid for first/business, will get a refund. The only way is through a refundable ticket. It sucks that this is what its come down to.

every time an airline refunds me for a cancelled flight, they act like they have gone abone and beyond by giving back my money for the service they did not provide! like "what else could you possibly want from us? to pay you for the inconvenience or stranding you?"

the difference between basic and premium isnt even worth what they offer! booking flight earlier this week and the basic economy (1 personal item & 1 bag included, meal included, but pay to pick my seat & no checked bag) was $300. economy plus (which was 1 personal items, 2 bags, meal, included picking the seat, 1 checked bag) for $2300. FOR ONE WAY. It is less to pick the basic and add everything a la carte style than to book premium economy by a difference of over a THOUSAND dollars. it is straight up robbery
