@shannsfinds: Save your skin from its next breakout, STOP using these products together! 👀 1️⃣ Retinol + Benzoyl Peroxide: Both are acne-fighting superstars, but together? Major irritation. Retinol promotes cell turnover, while benzoyl peroxide kills acne-causing bacteria. When used together, they deactivate each other and strip your skin barrier. - Example: Don’t layer Differin Gel (retinoid) with PanOxyl (benzoyl peroxide). Alternate nights instead! 2️⃣ Niacinamide + Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid): They’re both brightening heroes, but not always besties. Niacinamide can raise the pH of vitamin C, making it less effective. This combo may cause flushing or breakouts in sensitive skin. - Example: Avoid mixing The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% with SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. Use one in the AM, one in the PM. 3️⃣ Vitamin C + AHAs (like glycolic or lactic acid): Too many acids = angry skin. Vitamin C is already acidic. Adding AHAs can lead to over-exfoliation, redness, and sensitivity. - Example: Don’t layer Drunk Elephant C-Firma with The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. Space them out or use on alternate days. 4️⃣ Exfoliating Acids + Physical Scrubs: Double exfoliation = double trouble. Chemical exfoliants (like salicylic or lactic acid) dissolve dead skin cells. Physical scrubs (like walnut or sugar scrubs) manually slough them off. Using both can cause microtears, inflammation, and compromise your skin barrier. - Example: Skip pairing Paula’s Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant with St. Ives Apricot Scrub. Choose one method, not both. Pro tip: Use the CareSkin.ai app to help you better identify what’s in your skincare🤌 Skincare is science, not guesswork. Mix smart, not harsh. I am a MUA and actually tell all my brides to do a chemical exfoliant followed by a physical scrub and it works wonders! The key is to do this once a week or biweekly depending on skin sensitivity, just not every day 😉

I guess you mean mixing as in don’t use them at the same time?Because you can in fact use them in the same routine but at different times or days.Retinol and Vit C are a powerhouse when used separately.

TORI! :
Vit C + Niacinamide is not a “myth” necessarily as some commentators are stating but just no longer holds up with modern formulations. Under specific, extreme conditions the two molecules will react, causing niacinamide to convert to niacin resulting in the flushing. Modern formulations are stable.
