I don’t think they were blinded… They were so grief stricken that they would hang on to any shred of hope that their daughter was alive. I am sure others have said the same thing.

Body of Proof did an episode like this ..2 girls.. very similar in height,hair etc. Car accident.. one died one survived. Bandages bruises ..One family were told their daughter had died..the other their's had survived. Mis-identified by first responders.. docs never picked it up .. until a conversation with M.E about the dead girl having lupus. No she didn't... Eventually discovered that due to the placement of handbag with all I.D in it after the crash..the girl it was next to was the deceased & the alive one was the other. Emotions all over the place with both families on realisation of the HUGE mistake. Tv shows get their inspiration from real life so I wonder if this incident was theirs?

I remember when this happened. It was crazy. But can you imagine being Whitney now being able to go back and hear about what people said and dead at her funeral. That’s just so unbelievably crazy.
