Between Two Fires was so good it almost made me giddy? Like the detail and history he crammed in there was so perfect. Howls From the Dark Ages was a really great read too! There were stories from all over the world, not just Europe

I just read Doomsday Book by Connie Willis, where a time traveling historian from 2054 gets stuck in a village during the beginning of the plague in England. It goes between the two time periods but the parallels are so cool and prophetic since the book was published in 1992. So now I’m obsessed too!!!

I loved between two fires! The prose is really amazing, it is a little gory but the violence isn’t gratuitous and it’s really enjoyable to read!

I am also in a medieval horror/plague kick myself - I just finished Company of Liars by Karen Maitland and it's sooo good. Its part historical fiction part folkhorror and magical realism. It's follows a Company of 9 people who are running from the plague but also their lies.

Pilgrim: A Medieval Horror by Mitchell Lüthi. It's not about the black death, but follows a crusader as he tries to get back home. His group gets lost in the desert outside of Jerusalem and slip into hell, kinda like Dante but also incorporating islamic, jewish, and cannanite mythology. It's a bit gory though

This isn’t medieval but The Ghost Map by Steven Johnson is a fascinating read in the same vein as some of the other books about the plague.
