@nurse.jackiecrna: Everyone feels different about this. I truly don’t believe it’s a one size fits all. You have to evaluate who you are, your capabilities, and what you think you’re capable of. Shorter doesn’t always mean better. Longer doesnt always mean better either. This is very individualized which is why it’s often difficult to give people advice on this without knowing the ins and outs of who you are and what you’ve been exposed to in the icu! Hope this helps. Also others may feel completely different than I do on this topic and that’s okay. I’ve had long discussions with various people about this who I will tag below! @AnnajCRNA + Nurse Educator @kateb_crna @✨ Rozalina✨ BSN ✨SRNA ✨ #nurse #crna #nurses #nursing #nursesoftiktok

100% agree. I think the minimum required experience should increase to two years at MINIMUM.

I agree with this. Having that ICU background and being in many emergent situations and taking care of critically ill patients with confidence helps so much.

Agreeed😌 I will add the clinical and emotionally maturity between a 22 year old and a 26 year old is noticeably different.

For me I did do my first year as new grad in ICU but I really wanted to dig in and be good in all things ICU so did an extra year in ICU and to me it made a world of diff on my knowledge and confidence 😁

The answer is based on the hours you need 1750 hours of icu experience not a year or two …

Do you know the difference between CAA and CRNA? I heard from a fellow CAA that I shadow that it’s roughly the same job but I feel like CRNA requires more experience and schooling compared to CAA.

Could you do a video talking about the transfer process from a pcu to icu ?

Do you think experience with emergent situations or experience with complex devices and medications is more important for crna school?

Im not a nurse but im thinking of going down this pathway. Do you think new grad nurses should start in somewhere else before doing the icu itself? And how do you get better at critical thinking? Im horrible at it and im a firm believer that skills can be developed and improved, so how would i go about making sure i do my best?

If I work as a paramedic does that count as critical care or does it strictly have to be nursing in icu

Do you think it’s looked down on by other C/SRNAs in the program being accepted with less than 2yrs of ICU experience?

If I have the choice between a CVICU in a high acuity hospital, or the trauma ICU or surgical ICU in a level 1 trauma/high acuity hospital which would be the best for CRNA experience? The CVICU would offer a better nurse to patient ratio and more required education/certifications I could possibly put on my application. The other hospital puts us through less training and certification courses and has a slightly higher nurse to patient ratio, but puts out a lot of CRNAs and is the only level 1 trauma center in our area.

Have you come across any nurse who has been bedside 5+ years and switch to ICU and gotten into CRNA with only a year or 1.5 yrs experience? It’s the route I’m currently trying to take 😅😬

I just hit two years and I feel *somewhat* confident. I definitely would not have been prepared with less than one year. There’s no way I would have been prepared to deal with codes and very critical scenarios. That only comes with practice imo. And it’s not learning how to respond to everything it’s learning to respond to the critical unknowns or first time encounters, that’s the thing that takes time.

I still didn’t know my ass from my elbow after a year. I’m on year three in a lower acuity icu and still don’t feel like I could hack it or get accepted. Like one year for any advanced practice is so insane imo
