Lady Zewditu :

Unpopular opinion: A lot of our colorism in Ethiopia comes from how we’ve equated holiness with light skin — saying light-skinned women “look like St. Mary/Mariam.” Yet, most Ethiopians are dark brown or darker. What’s ironic is that Mary was from Jerusalem — a region where, given the heat and geography, she was far more likely to have been brown-skinned, not light. But centuries of colonial art and imported imagery reshaped how we imagine her. Instead of honoring our own diverse shades, we’ve internalized a Euro-painted version of purity and beauty that doesn’t reflect our history or reality.

Sun's Pr Team🗣🗣‼‼ :

Why are people unironically saying Ethiopians are predominently lightskin.. are we all collectively choosing to be braindead? There are more brownskins than light skins by SO MUCH MORE. Most are brown and dark brown.

A common question is how Ethiopia, with its immense diversity of ethnicities and religions, has managed to survive as a state, while Somalia, which is largely homogeneous in both ethnicity and religion, collapsed into a failed state. The fundamental reason is historical: Ethiopia possesses over 3,000 years of history as a continuous civilization and was never created by colonial powers. This long tradition of indigenous statehood fostered a strong national identity that has, thus far, proven resilient enough to withstand its internal divisions.🥰

injera.is.not.bread🇪🇹🇺🇸 :

Ethiopia has exceptionally high genetic diversity and it shows in the incredible variety of phenotypes as this post demonstrates.

Tesfaye Desalegn :

The largest to middle ethnic groups of Ethiopia even within each ethnicities may have such diversity. Even among siblings, you may have a dark skinned person with the smoothest hair texture and the lightest skinned sibling with wooly hair.
