Elevator shafts have locks that stop the elevator then the rope slips, when you jump and it’s operated normally, the locks kick in and stop the car making you stuck and need the elevator company or fire department to let you out

I don't think you can jump at all, gravity will push you down because of the speed of the fall, so you won't be able to jump.

Best thing is sit down in the center back. The lift have at least 2 pillars under and they are normally placed on each side sometimes one in center to.
