I started putting the empty containers on his desk and when he asked why I said "I didn't know if you were doing something with that since you left it empty". It stopped happening immediately. 😅 I dont like those games at all.

Whatever his favorite snacks are “eat” all of them before he can, even if that means hiding the food in plastic bags somewhere else in the house. Then every time he checks for a snack, the container is empty. Buy new and repeat until he learns.

Unfortunately you need to create some better boundaries surrounding food. He needs to be responsible and put empty packages into the garbage and then add whatever he finished to the grocery list. You are going to have to tell him to do that and hold him to it until it’s a habit.
