He needs some perspective. this isn't 1875. Women can fully support themselves financially and men, even in two income households, don't typically carry much load of the house chores and child rearing. The majority of the work around the home falls on the woman. Marriage definitely benefits the men more in this day and age.

Whatever else you believe about marriage, if you care about the person you are marrying, then that legal union gives you rights during some very dark times, like during severe illness and death. Imagine not being able to visit someone you love during their last moments. Maybe that's not sufficient to overcome the risks of the downsides of being in a bad marriage, but it's something to consider.

No problem. There are both men and women who are not interested in marriage. And there are those who enjoy making a home with a committed partner, hoping to have children and raise them, and have a person to share their life with as they age. Simply different people looking for different things. You do you.
